I’m always hesitant to do this because the one thing all politicians have in common is that given enough time, they will disappoint you.  That’s only rational, of course, given that they are human and fallen like the rest of us.  And given the moral cesspool that is Washington, D.C., the temptations and opportunities to fall into corruption or to compromise one’s stated values is immense. 

But to this point, I am thoroughly impressed with Navy SEAL turned Representative Dan Crenshaw of Texas.  Not just his policy positions which I already appreciated, but his demeanor, his willingness to engage even as a freshman, and his – to this point – dignified but direct approach to his colleagues...

The Democrat Party in America has a real problem.  It’s been brewing for some time, but it’s bubbling over at this point and those who would continue shrouding, cloaking, downplaying, or veiling the issue are no longer able to do so. 

The Democrat Party in America has become obsessed with abortion.  Not just attentive, not just involved, not just committed.  They are obsessed with the practice of killing infants in the womb.  If you're a Democrat and that angers you, praise God...

Last week I wrote on the horror of what just happened in New York, where the legislature passed a law on the dark anniversary of Roe v Wade that, amongst other things, achieved these three devastating political objectives of the abortion lobby:

1. Non-doctors, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and midwives, are now permitted to commit this seriously invasive and dangerous act of abortion on women.  
2. Dismembering a full-term baby up to the point of birth is now fully legal provided that the mother declare her emotional health requires the baby’s life be terminated...

So since I’m already on record as thinking (knowing) that the Nancy Pelosi-led Democrats just humiliated President Trump over this shutdown/border wall issue, I do think it’s worthwhile acknowledging that a political victory doesn’t bring legitimacy or nobility to the effort. 

Every American will judge for themselves the President’s motive in sustaining the shutdown that deprived people of their livelihoods before eventually relenting and giving up.  So too should every American judge the Democrats’ motive for sustaining the shutdown that deprived people of their livelihoods before eventually winning the day...

Maybe now we can stop with all the silly “Trump the master negotiator,” “Trump the Fighter” nonsense?

I understand Trump apologists’ desire to portray all of his seeming misstatements, missteps, and mistakes as really just our inability to perceive his greater wisdom that sees things fifteen steps ahead of the rest of us.  Eighteen-degree chess, and all that.  Dating back to the campaign, one of the things that has really worn on me these last three years has been the willingness of so many on the right – including a large number that I used to look up to and trust implicitly to be straight shooters – to continue indulging a futile effort to portray Trump as a political prodigy who is driven by a grand plan we can’t perceive but will one day appreciate for its genius...

The woman, named Kara, who posted the now viral video of Stefani Germanotta (popularly known by her stage name, Lady Gaga) berating Vice President Mike Pence at one of her recent concerts, wrote this caption:

“We need more people like Gaga to not be afraid and to speak up. What she says here, thank you for using your voice @ladygaga #ENIGMA”

I’ve actually never been so convinced the precise opposite is true.  What we really need is more people to be thoughtful, slow to speak, quick to listen.  And particularly for those like Gaga who have an incredibly significant platform from which to influence people like Kara, we desperately need them to be guided by something more morally grounded than the dangerous combination of a sinful human nature and the fickle winds of pop culture...

There’s been a marked change in the abortion movement in the last year, which could be the result of a number of factors:

• It could be the shifting demographics of the war over the practice as increasing numbers of polls show younger Americans (particularly young women) are more approving of restrictions on the gruesome act. 
• It could be the change in leadership as Cecile Richards – a woman who desperately attempted to hide that abortion was the driving engine behind Planned Parenthood – to Leana Wen who seems willing to celebrate that fact.
• It could be the growing sense of discomfort over the undeniable ideological shift taking place on the U.S. Supreme Court.

But whatever the case may be...

I remember a few years ago when the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. monument was dedicated in D.C. being amazed that they managed to create a memorial to honor an influential Baptist minister and somehow omit any reference to God or Jesus in the featured quotations and inscriptions.  Remember, this was "Reverend" Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., after all.

Some argued at the time that Biblical references were rejected because the memorial was to focus not on his work as a pastor, but rather as a civil rights crusader.  Of course, to Dr. King, the two were inseparable.  It was his faith in Jesus Christ, his belief in transcendent Moral Authority, and his allegiance to Divine Law that motivated his activism.  Not to mention that his civil rights speeches were peppered with Scriptural references as the justification for his positions...

This needs to be said.  Like many of you, I saw the first video clips that came out and were run repeatedly by mainstream media: a lone Native man, who turned out to be a decorated war veteran for this country, appeared to have his peaceful demonstration interrupted by a crowd of rambunctious teenage boys attending the March for Life.  One of the teens seemed to be trying to intimidate the man by staring at him with a sarcastic smirk on his face.

I watched the same media that had been doing all it could to avoid covering the annual March for Life, finally finding reason to pay it some attention.  Reports of these boys chanting “Build the Wall” – an odd message to be shouting at a Native American in the first place – began to make the rounds, along with challenges from social justice spokesmen to look up to and model the dignity and stoic courage of this lone Native named Nathan Phillips...

The Hill dropped a story based off a recent Pew Research study that could and should send chills up the spines of conservative Americans.  It revealed that young Americans born 1996 or after, the so-called Generation Z, are shaping up to be the most liberal generation ever.  Here’s what the study found:

Yes, that means his job in media is to report on…media.  And, of course, at CNN that translates to maintaining a Twitter timeline full of anti-Fox, anti-conservative media remarks and posts.  So be it.  Everyone’s got to have their thing...

First it was the Simpsons caving to the PC gestapo, now it’s Family Guy.  It turns out that the most “envelope-pushing,” politically incorrect champions of the entertainment industry have a breaking point after all.  And that breaking point is wherever the modern Viceroys of Virtue Signaling tell them it has to be.

Jokes about fat people, Christians, rape, bestiality, stalking, and infanticide are totally cool.  But homosexuality?  Too far.  Seeing what has recently happened to long-standing comedy giants like Kevin Hart for having told a gay joke at one point in his life, it’s certainly understandable why Seth MacFarlane would be running scared.  He might want to host the Oscars one day...

The Republican Party leadership in Congress is doing what it should do by not only distancing themselves from Representative Steve King, but punishing him for idiotic remarks he made to the New York Times where he questioned why white supremacy is considered offensive.  With prominent Senators like Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney calling for King’s resignation, House Republican leaders stripped him of his committee appointments.

The next logical step is obviously for the Republican Party as an organization to announce that they will not support, fundraise, or otherwise participate in any future campaign by King. 

This is obviously the right thing to do...

There’s actually a more important story for political observers to talk and write about than Representative Rashida Tlaib’s profane screeching at President Trump which dominated more headlines than it deserved.  And that’s the content of what she promised: impeachment of President Trump.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that impeaching the president was the tantalizing undercurrent of the 2018 Democrat campaign for a blue wave.  You heard it from many candidates who purposefully dangled the possibility as red meat (or should I say blue meat) in front of angry progressive crowds at rallies and campaign stops.  But for those paying attention to the social media and cable news outlets, getting rid of President Trump was the unifying battle cry of leftists coast to coast...

It can’t continue.  It won’t continue.  Jesus said it, Lincoln plagiarized it, and it’s still true: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

It was always a foregone conclusion that the left’s cultural revolution was never going to end well for society.  But what so many people who consider themselves progressive never paused to consider, apparently, was that revolutions rarely end well for the revolutionaries.  It’s almost axiomatic that as a revolution unfolds, even if it meets with initial successes, various factions will form and begin devouring one another.

There’s a commonly understood, even if unspoken, rule for most opinion columnists, and that is: don’t read the comment section.  It’s not that those forums can’t ever produce good thoughts or insightful observations.  It’s that those sections are far more often havens for nameless trolls who are far more interested in name-calling and pejoratives than in seriously engaging the argument being made. 

Admittedly, I break that rule from time to time and am sometimes just amazed at how many people truly read only the title of a piece, never the content, before unloading both keyboard barrels with a vengeance...

The day after the midterm elections, leftist Shahed Amanullah attempted to encourage fellow liberals who might have been discouraged at the limited scope of the expected “blue wave” by writing,

“If you feel sad today, just imagine Mike Pence swearing 2 women into Congress with the Qur’an.”

It’s doubtful Amanullah knew how appropriate the verb “swearing” would be when it came to one of those two women, the anti-Semitic racist Rashida Tlaib, who spent her first day as a Congresswoman attempting to defend her profanity directed at the sitting president.  More to the point, Amanullah’s tweet fell flat because, of course, the Vice President doesn’t swear in members of the House of Representatives; he swears in Senators.

I took some time off from writing around the holidays and spent time with my family.  But that didn’t stop me from taking a look at my Twitter feed every now and then.  And as Christmas approached I took a screenshot every time I read what I thought was an absolutely horrid take on the holiday.  My thought was to write a piece highlighting the ten worst takes.   

But like many parents of three young kids, my phone’s storage is completely maxed out with videos, photos, apps and games.  So on Christmas Eve, when my wife asked me to snap a few pictures of the kids leaving the Jesus Birthday Cake by the fireplace for Santa along with their note making sure the fat man was properly evangelized, I had to clear some space.  And most all of those screenshots were the first to go.
