After the man affectionately known as John “Fruit Ninja” Kasich completed his remarkably predictable career move by inking a deal to criticize Republicans on CNN, Kasich’s new colleagues came to his immediate defense. But without question the most, shall we say interesting, take came from Oliver Darcy who holds the illustrious title of “senior media reporter” at the cable giant. Yes, that means his job in media is to report on…media. And, of course, at CNN that translates to maintaining a Twitter timeline full of anti-Fox, anti-conservative media remarks and posts. So be it. Everyone’s got to have their thing. But Darcy’s defense of Kasich was actually a post that lashed out at Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell for, of all things, inconsistency. After Bozell had ripped Kasich for taking a job in the “anti-Trump liberal media,” Darcy responded by writing,
I get that Bozell is a Trump guy and so that puts him squarely in Darcy’s crosshairs. And I certainly don’t disagree that Bozell has “morphed” when it comes to supporting the president. As Darcy’s CNN colleague Jake Tapper pointed out, Bozell once referred to Trump as, “a shameless self-promoter,” and, “a huckster.” But I’m just not sure Oliver Darcy is the one to carry this message. After all, about the time that Bozell was making those remarks, Darcy was saying this about CNN:
Darcy also helped lead the criticism of CNN for colluding with Hillary Clinton in her primary battle with Bernie Sanders, mocked CNN for not understanding what “breaking news” actually was, criticized CNN for being “really confused,” ridiculed CNN’s epically poor ratings, and accused a CNN anchor of not even knowing what an automatic weapon was.” If CNN wants to defend Kasich and do so by trashing Brent Bozell for not believing today what he believed in 2016, that’s fine. But they might want to dispatch someone other than their “senior media reporter” who apparently doesn’t believe today what he believed in 2016 either. |
