I admit that this is not a piece I enjoy writing or one that I even want to write.  Rebuking someone that you have looked up to and held in high esteem for such a long time is not a pleasant experience for anyone, particularly when that someone is a Christian brother who has done immense good for the Kingdom of God.  If true religion is what the book of James tells us it is, “caring for orphans and widows,” Franklin Graham has lived it through his benevolence ministry, Samaritan’s Purse.

That good work, however, does not immunize Graham from being held accountable for his public witness.  And it is upon those grounds that I feel compelled to implore Mr. Graham as a Christian brother to please choose silence in our current political environment...

One of the most remarkable stories you’ll read is that of John Newton, author of the globally famous song Amazing Grace.  Newton was a slave ship captain who repented of his sins, became a minister, and whose personal testimonies of the horrors of the slave trade were used effectively by the great William Wilberforce to prosecute the practice before Parliament.

But here’s what few people realize about Newton’s life: his conversion to Christ did not lead to his immediate deliverance from the life of a slave trader.  In fact, he persisted in that occupation for years after coming to faith in Jesus.  He would actually study his Latin Bible in his quarters while hundreds of slaves suffered just below him in the ship’s hold...

Michael J. Knowles humorously pointed out recently that the mainstream media’s embarrassing lack of Biblical literacy reared its humiliating head again, this time in the wake of the disastrous fire at the Notre Dame cathedral.  The Associated Press seemed surprised to learn that a cathedral was a place of worship, and the New York Times hilariously assumed that a priest rushing into the fire to retrieve the “body of Christ” meant he was going in after a statue rather than the Blessed Sacrament.

Remember this is the same New York Times that...

I’ve been surprised at the number of Christians who appear stunned that Mayor Pete Buttigieg made startlingly depraved remarks regarding the intentional murder of full-term babies in their mothers’ wombs.

If you missed it, it happened on Morning Joe when co-host Willie Geist explained that while religious conservatives were intrigued by Buttigieg, they could not get past his support for the heinous act of third-term abortion.  In response, Mayor Pete put together a word salad of heartlessness...

I don’t know her personally, but I have always liked the public character of Michele Bachmann.  I remember defending her when she came under the heavy scrutiny, and unfair disparagement of the mainstream media during the era of the TEA Party and 2012 election cycle.  And when ABC’s Diane Sawyer and Brian Ross tag-teamed on Bachmann to discredit her husband’s Christian counseling as anti-gay, I spoke up on their behalf.

That said, in recent days Ms. Bachmann has ventured into territory that I have no interest in defending or attempting to justify.  Specifically, these comments made recently on a podcast hosted by Jan Markell, are at once indefensible and extremely unproductive...

It was the entire premise behind the repeal of sodomy laws.

It was the entire premise behind the judicial decree of gay marriage.

It was the entire premise behind Lady Gaga’s magnum opus.

It was the entire premise behind the fining and government censure of private businesses whose owners hold religious convictions.

It is the entire premise behind the extension of non-discrimination laws based on sexual orientation...

Please don’t mistake this for a Jennifer Rubin article.  You know, Rubin the “conservative blogger” for the Washington Post who actually posted an online Twitter poll recently as she fantasized about the potential “dream ticket” for the Democrats: Stacey Abrams/Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris/Jim Mattis, Joe Biden/Heidi Heitkamp, Beto O’Rourke/Amy Klobuchar.

Yes, she pretends to be a conservative and the Washington Post pretends that we all buy that.  Rest assured, I haven’t gone mad and that’s not what this is.  But given that I think the path to re-election victory for President Trump is thin-bordering-on-non-existent, it never hurts to consider the best possible outcome of a Democrat primary...

As I read the enraged responses from professing Christians at the news that Vice President Mike Pence would be the commencement speaker for Taylor University (a leading private, Christian institution located in tiny Upland, Indiana) I realized something.

Keep in mind that Pence has been one of the most outspoken Christian public servants in recent decades.  He makes no effort to hide his faith, acknowledging himself as, “A Christian, a conservative, and a Republican…in that order.”  Therefore, it is completely logical that a Christian institution would invite him to speak, in addition to the fact that he was a long-time Congressman from the Hoosier state, as well as its Governor, before ascending to the second highest office in the land...

Kyle Blaine is the senior campaign editor for CNN.  Kyle Blaine is a smart person.  Yet, Kyle Blaine apparently knows nothing about Christianity.  That probably comes across sounding harsher than it is intended; it’s just that I don’t know how else to describe Blaine’s apparent ignorance of basic Christian thought as evidenced by this recent statement:

“This Buttigieg/Pence episode illustrates a core question many LGBT people have to confront at some point in their life: Can you be “friends” with someone who believes that something at the very core of who you are is wicked and should be changed?” ...

Congress has no shortage of clueless buffoonery, but it seems that there are a few of its characters that can always be counted on to deliver in that regard.

Hank Johnson, Jr. worrying that the island nation of Guam might become too heavy and “capsize” comes to mind.  As does Lindsey Graham asking Facebook exec Mark Zuckerberg, “Is Twitter the same as what you do?”  And who can forget Sheila Jackson Lee pontificating about how, “today we have two Vietnams, side by side?”  Recently, of course, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been stealing the congressional comedian limelight as she grills bank CEOs over “financing” the “caging of children.”

But when it comes to being captain of the clown show, all her rivals should bow before the greatness that is Representative Maxine Waters.  Two days ago she demonstrated why...

About two months ago one of my high school students showed me the Strange Planet cartoons of Nathan Pyle.  I laughed enough at the couple I saw that I started following the Strange Planet Instagram account and enjoy reading at the lovable aliens he illustrates.  Pyle’s work is clever, simple, and above all unique.

For my money this isn’t on par with Gary Larson’s Far Side, but Strange Planet is original and going places.

Well, it was.  But just like everything these days, the thought police on the left can’t just let a good thing be a good thing.  Apparently some intrepid new wave feminist decided that his cartoons couldn’t be enjoyed until she knew that Pyle was cool with killing children in the womb for convenience...

Let me just start by saying it’s somewhat depressing to consider our republic is now at the point where Candace Owens is being called to offer expert testimony at a House Judiciary Committee hearing.  Of course, looking at the cartoonish cast of characters who occupy seats on that committee is no less depressing.

Still, what we have lost in dignity we make up for in sheer entertainment.  And that’s the only word that can describe the shredding that Owens put on the noticeably dimwitted Congressman from California, Ted Lieu.

Lieu pretty much revealed the entire farcical meeting for what it was when he broke out an audio recorder to play the infamous 30 second clip of Owens apparently pulling a Marge Schott (“Hitler was good in the beginning but went too far”)...

There’s simply no logical explanation for President Trump to be flirting with the imposition of a gasoline tax unless it is because he truly doesn’t want to be re-elected in 2020.  And mind you, I think that’s a possibility.

My personal opinion (though I have nothing but my own pedestrian powers of observation to back this up)?  I think Trump ran for attention, was shocked to win the primary, was even more shocked to win the presidency, and has been putting in time ever since.  To me, he honestly seems more interested in using his bully pulpit to jab at enemies and settle scores than he does any kind of agenda.  I think the only thing that makes him want to keep the job is because he doesn’t want to be branded a “loser."...

Erick Erickson poked the outrage bear the other day when he suggested that the Democrats’ current presidential candidate flavor-of-the-month Pete Buttigieg apparently believes that Jesus approves of bestiality.  The responses ranged anywhere from enraged fury to complete loss of bodily function.

While some of those irate responses were nothing if not entertaining, there was an ironic undercurrent behind the majority of them: that Erickson was butchering logic to draw his conclusion.  Mark Joseph Stern, a writer for leftwing Slate, responded to Erick by scolding...

I got thinking the other day that I probably needed to start paying attention to some of what I was writing for others to read.  Here’s what I mean: I wrote a couple times recently about former tennis great Martina Navratilova, a woman who came out of the closet as a gay athlete long before it was culturally cool to do so, who was plowed over by the tidal wave of transgenderism in our culture.

Martina voiced her opposition to having to compete against a biological male in a woman’s sport just because he says he thinks he’s a female.  And while I wrote about that to draw attention to the hostility transgender ideology has for the entire construct of biological sex (something that provides the foundation for homosexual ideology), I realized that I needed to take heed myself...

I know my decision to write a story about Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will now get me lumped in with all the conservatives “obsessed” with her.  Whatever.  Truthfully, there aren’t many politicians I care less about given that Cortez has made a calculated decision to pursue fame rather than power.

Now, it is true that some Democrats have parlayed one into the other (think Barack Obama).  But Cortez is not following the Obama path of ingratiating herself with party leadership, fundraisers, and power brokers.  She is pursuing headlines, cameras, late-night appearances, magazine spreads, and anything that draws attention to herself; in the process, ticking off her party leadership, fundraisers, and power brokers...

When CNN began boasting about receiving the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism from the Norman Lear Center for their “townhall” exploitation of the Parkland school shooting, rational people everywhere rolled their eyes.  Media elites giving awards to media elites to celebrate how elite they are is as meaningful as when Hollywood does the same thing at their awards shows.

But despite the dismissive yawn that most folks give to this “achievement,” I can’t help but admit it is perfectly well deserved.  For those who don’t remember, Walter Cronkite was the longtime anchor of CBS Evening News who narrated a number of important moments for millions of Americans watching on their TVs.  But Cronkite was also a far-left activist who advocated the destruction of American sovereignty from his perch at CBS...

This could be the shortest presidential campaign in history.  Just a few weeks ago, I wrote these words in a piece here at the Resurgent:

“Biden’s problem is not just that he sticks his foot in his mouth regularly; it’s that he is a square peg trying to fit in a left-wing, intersectionality-created round hole.  People are being chased from the public square, brow-beaten into silence, and publicly scourged by the social justice activist coup that now controls the [Democrat Party]… Simply put, that is an insurmountable obstacle for a guy like Biden.”

And here we are.  In recent days, a social justice activist and former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores wrote an article for New York Magazine that detailed how Joe Biden invaded her personal space and awkwardly gave her an unwanted kiss.  These days, that’s more than sexual harassment, that’s sexual assault.  Now you tell me how a party that “believes all women” is going to nominate Joe?  It. Won’t. Happen...
