Let me just start by saying it’s somewhat depressing to consider our republic is now at the point where Candace Owens is being called to offer expert testimony at a House Judiciary Committee hearing. Of course, looking at the cartoonish cast of characters who occupy seats on that committee is no less depressing. Still, what we have lost in dignity we make up for in sheer entertainment. And that’s the only word that can describe the shredding that Owens put on the noticeably dimwitted Congressman from California, Ted Lieu. Lieu pretty much revealed the entire farcical meeting for what it was when he broke out an audio recorder to play the infamous 30 second clip of Owens apparently pulling a Marge Schott (“Hitler was good in the beginning but went too far”). After putting the black woman in her place, tough guy Lieu refused her the opportunity to respond, instead turning to a different “witness” to comment on her. Classy. But never fear, Republican Representative Guy Reschenthaler put Lieu on the tee for her just moments later. And Owens swung for the fences:
Democrat Chairman Nadler then rushed in on his white horse to defend Ted’s honor. Unfortunately for him, he accused Owens of calling Ted “stupid” when that wasn’t at all what she said. She pointed that out and Nadler sat dumbfounded before motioning her to go on with her statement. Oops.
Well then. The best part had to be watching Representative Lieu sitting there in the aftermath, bouncing his fingers off each other with a cat-that-ate-the-canary look on his face that seemed to betray just a bit of regret for having reported for work that day. |
