Several of us in my home state of Indiana were half-amused, half-annoyed several years ago when left-wing corporate fascists became apoplectic after then-Governor Pence signed the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act.  Annoyed because economic boycotts of the nature they initiated are always counterproductive; amused because the execs seemed completely oblivious to their hypocrisy and inconsistency. 

For instance, GenCon threatened to leave Indianapolis over the new law.  But if they did, where were they going to go?  Chicago?  Illinois had an identical Religious Freedom law, as did 7 of the top 10 convention cities in the nation as ranked by Cvent, the world’s “leading authority on strategic meetings management.”

Cummins Engine also railed against the law as being “bad for business” in the state.  No one with a brain bought that, given that Cummins had just expanded their own operation into states that boast an identical Religious Freedom law to the one they were opposing.

And then there was Apple, which threatened Indiana over that law, while happily doing business in China – a country that interns Muslims and kills Christians for their faith. 

But of course, despite the ignorance, Pence and Republican lawmakers backed down and passed a RFRA “fix” that jeopardized religious freedom in the state far more than it ever would have been before the original RFRA law. 

Sadly, the success of this method of corporate bullying has caught on and is now being replicated not just to advance the LGBT political agenda, but also the floundering anti-life cause.  And the hypocrisy is more astounding than ever.

Take Disney company’s pathetic threat to follow the lead of Netflix and cease filming in Georgia since it passed legal protections for tiny human beings in the womb.  This, while happily filming Star Wars in abortion-banning countries like Croatia, Bolivia, and Ireland (which has since changed its law).  And the flagrant hypocrisy gets worse for the House of Mouse, as Guy Benson highlights:

And in light of this apparent defense of 'reproductive choice,' I assume he's in the process of shutting down all production in China -- including shuttering the two Disney theme parks on Chinese soil.  After all, that country's government enforces policies of compulsory abortion, anti-LGBT discrimination, and numerous egregious human rights abuses.  Is it "practical" for Disney to continue to do business in such a place?  And why would Disney even entertain a proposal for a new park in Saudi Arabia? 

It’s a shame people have given up persuading people with the power of their ideas and instead retreat into elementary playground tactics – methods completely devoid of consistency or logic – to get what they want.

To its credit, unlike North Carolina and Indiana who both buckled to the economic terrorism, Georgia doesn’t seem overly concerned with Disney’s bluster. 

And that’s what it’s ultimately going to take.  It’s going to take grown-ups ripping away tax subsidies from the overgrown toddlers in suits who threaten to take their ball and go home when the left’s perpetual outrage machine asks them to.
