Not all leftists are godless. But leftist progressivism represents a godless approach to politics and social order – one in which the state is exalted to godlike status as the ultimate moral authority, and thus power (and the pursuit of power through politics) is worshipped. This isn’t a new observation or a particularly complex realization for anyone who can think critically. But it is a prescient and revelatory one to acknowledge when trying to make sense out of what otherwise comes across as soulless and heartless conduct committed by the left in the political sphere... Like many on the political right, I’ve spent years laughing at Joe Biden’s hapless and, let’s be honest, cartoonish political life. I don’t particularly dislike the man at all. He seems genial, friendly, and someone who tries his best to do the right thing, even if his political ideology is batty. But you can’t compile a highlight reel of gaffes like Joe Biden and not expect people to chuckle at your relentless folly. But with as frequent as it has become, I’m beginning to think it’s time to stop laughing. At what point is it no longer the Biden Gaffe Machine on display, but a man whose mental acuity and faculties are slowing down immensely? The latter is certainly not something to joke about, to make into a punchline, or to promote for political gain... Aug

For anyone who even considers laying blame for the sorry state of political civility in this country at the feet of President Donald Trump, just stop. Donald Trump is the consequence of our current environment, not its cause. As I’ve noted before, Trump is what happened when a generation of Republicans and conservatives grew tired of being bullied by the Democrat Media Complex, and so they went out and hired a bully of their own. Do I like it? Nope. Do I think it’s the right response? Nope. Did I vote for it? Nope. Do I think that this will end well? Nope. But if liberal Democrats... Aug

I’m not ready to pull the plug on my prediction that Kamala Harris would be the Democrat nominee in 2020…yet. There’s way too much time for her and she has way too much ambition to count her out. But I have to admit that I am legitimately shocked at how bad she is at this. I’m not sure why, but I thought she was quicker on her feet than she has proven to be in the debates. Her delivery comes off as contrived, her campaign as way over-produced, and her convictions seem, well, non-existent. The first glimpse of that came in the days immediately following her supposedly strong attack on front-runner Joe Biden in the inaugural debate... Aug

It’s simply shocking how anyone could conclude that there is an inherent liberal media bias amongst mainstream publications. There’s just no consistent, persistent evidence of such one-sidedness amongst journalism’s supposed elite. Take for instance, USA Today’s recent front-page headline describing a puff piece on Obama Supreme Court appointee Sonia Sotomayor:

In a crowded field of competitors I get what he’s doing. And politically I don’t blame him. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is a longshot candidate who lacks the pedigree, chops, and experience for the office he seeks. But that doesn’t always matter in presidential primaries. Often times outsider candidates who find a niche, tap into a core group of committed supporters who are willing to ride with them through thick and thin, can take advantage of the splintering nature of crowded race demographics and pull the upset. Apparently for Buttigieg’s team, they’ve decided going after the disaffected religious left is his best strategy... Aug

I’m not yet ready to abandon my initial prediction that Kamala Harris will be the Democrat presidential nominee in 2020, but I am ready to revise the piece that I wrote in mid-April where I tried to determine the best case scenario for those of us who are conservative and think that the Democrats will win the White House in the upcoming election. Peeking in at the current state of the Democrats’ race to the top leaves me aghast at the prospect that one of these people could actually end up leading our country for four years... Aug

It’s almost surreal to watch unfold. Oliver Darcy, CNN’s “Senior Media Reporter,” spent the weekend lamenting the problems with media. He tweeted out an article from the New York Times (of all sources) that warned how “our information ecosystem is poisoned.” He questioned how in this, the summer of 2019 (!), the media industry is not “better at this.” Of course, CNN’s Darcy knew exactly who the problem was: President Trump and “his supporters in right-wing media.” The lack of self-awareness is simply breathtaking. Granted, it’s par for the course at the network of... Aug

I have sworn off hot takes. It’s something that I feel very strongly about as a Christian that I need to not participate in the rush to judgment, the eagerness to condemn others, and the promotion of my own agenda by capitalizing on the very real emotions being experienced by others. The Bible teaches me to be slow to speak and quick to listen, and I have made a concerted effort to discipline myself in that regard. I worried initially that such a commitment would hurt my effectiveness in the tweet-happy, social media driven world of politics and culture. But watching the abject fools that so many make of themselves... Aug

I know it’s old news now, but I can’t help but go back to it. This is what I can’t stand. This is what I think is so unhelpful. This is why I have come to loathe political tribalism. President Trump, as he is accustomed to doing regularly, couldn’t resist his alarming natural tendency to lash out at his enemies recently – this time, Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland. The President and Congressman have been embroiled in a racially charged tit for tat over the dreadful conditions of Cummings’ home district in Baltimore... Aug

I really should just stop opening it, and yet I’m drawn to it out of morbid curiosity like when passing a train wreck. The disgraced Southern Poverty Law Center’s regular magazine “Teaching Tolerance” that is sent out to public schools across America arrived in my inbox this last week. And their featured “Moment?” A piece entitled, “Let’s Talk About Baltimore.” Of course I knew what it was going to be before I even opened it, but like I said, I couldn’t help myself. And the author Cory Collins didn’t disappoint... Aug

Perfect. It was perfect. What Don Lemon, one of the most unscrupulous actors posing as a journalist on television today, did to a black minister live on television last week stands as the perfect depiction of why people hate the media, why the president’s punches against them always land so forcefully, and why his employer CNN is cratering to what seems like unsustainably low ratings. It was also perfect that not long before, CNN’s resident “senior media reporter” Oliver Darcy had criticized Fox News’ resident loudmouth Tomi Lahren for “reprehensible commentary.” I’ve never been one to defend Tomi’s cartoonish performances, but to borrow from Jesus, Darcy might want to first concentrate on removing the gigantic plank in his network’s own eye before concentrating on Fox’s speck... Two mass shootings in less than 24 hours. Twenty-nine families irrevocably changed forever. One killer a white supremacist nut. Another a left-wing Antifa nut. Left-wing pundits and politicians blaming Trump because the El Paso terrorist echoed his rhetoric. Right-wing pundits and politicians pointing out the Dayton terrorist echoed the rhetoric of AOC and Sanders. Presidential candidates all posturing and pretending that they have the solution that would stop all this – but they never actually specify what that is. And there’s a reason. There is no political solution to hatred. There’s a spiritual one, but not a political one. So the situation seems hopeless... |
