Keynote: What a Difference 4 Years Makes
Four years ago, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic Convention with a rousing keynote speech that launched his current presidential campaign. Tuesday night, Mark Warner of Virginia gave that same keynote address that can be characterized by one word: Zzzzz. Smatterings of applause, rumbles of disinterested chatter, distracted convention goers…whose call was this? Click the pic to read about Warner's snoozer.
Does Anyone Get the Feeling...
…that things are really uncomfortable in Denver? It’s supposed to be the most exciting, thrilling, unifying event of the political season: the party convention. And yet, honest commentators from the left and the right are noting the bizarre feeling permeating Denver this week with the Democratic convention. Even the leftist networks can’t hide the reality that things are not happy in the Mile-High City. What Was That About McCain's Homes?
It wasn’t long ago that Barack Obama ran an ad mocking the fact that John McCain couldn’t remember how many homes he owned. The gist of the ad was that McCain is a rich miser who is out of touch with so many Americans struggling just to pay the mortgage on their one home. Maybe Obama should have perused his own slate of convention speakers before making that proposition. And THIS Is 'Change?!'
With the exception of Michelle Obama’s speech, did anyone notice the slated speakers at the DNC?  Pelosi, Clinton, Clinton, Kennedy, Carter…are these the bringers of that change Obama has been proclaiming?  Interesting how ‘change’ so closely resembles the tired old liberal politics of the past, isn’t it? Olbermann Acknowledges He's a Sycophant
It’s not like it’s news to anyone who has actually watched Keith Olbermann for longer than 3.2 seconds, but it’s a little odd that Olbermann feels no shame in acknowledging he’s a raging sycophant for Obama.  But he doesn’t…and his performance last night after Michelle Obama’s speech proves it…the man actually acknowledged the truth in his comments. The Odd Treatment of John Edwards
It’s just a little bizarre. The same Party that has idolized Bill Clinton with all his admitted affairs is ostracizing and self-righteously condemning one time presidential contender John Edwards. They won’t return phone calls, they feel betrayed, they feel used…all understandable…but where was this passion for truth and morality in the 90s?
Eeeeeeeasy, Bob...
Has it been time for Bob Schieffer to hang it up for a while now? Absolutely. Is there any denying it now? Not at all. The ageless wonder reported live from the Democratic National Convention that his first daughter was conceived at the Democrat Convention in 1968. That Bob thinks this is newsworthy, or that it won’t make the vast majority of Americans who think about it violently ill only validates the fact that it’s time for him to go. PeterHeck.com Poll Question of the Week
How do you rate Obama's pick of Senator Joe Biden to fill the VP slot on his ticket?
Who Lied About Iraq?
Using Randall Hoven’s incredibly detailed and excellent analysis of the actual authorization for war in Iraq, Peter will ask and answer this pivotal question over the course of several segments this week. When you actually look at the authorization (which virtually no one evidently has), it becomes patently clear who is and has been lying about the Iraq conflict…and it wasn’t, isn’t, and never has been the George W. Bush administration. Click the pic to read Hoven's piece.

An Endorsement...and That's All
Other than Keith Olbermann’s standard proclamation of a ‘grand slam’ for anyone who takes the stage at the Democratic National Convention, virtually all political commentators and observers view Hillary’s speech as an endorsement of Obama…but nothing more. No statement of confidence, no statement of qualification, no statement of character, no statement of trust…simply an endorsement. Unraveling
It wasn’t supposed to be happening this way. The Democrats had a unifying candidate, the Republicans a divisive party figure. The Democrats had the momentum, the Republicans struggling to find themselves. The Democrats had the power, the Republicans were trying to exert some semblance of authority. Then they nominated Barack Obama. And as the tense, uncomfortable, and bizarre DNC rolls on, things appear to be falling apart for the Democrats. Pelosi Embarrasses Herself on Abortion
Attempting to defend the freakish sacrament of death that dominates the leadership of the Democratic Party, Nancy Pelosi did immeasurable damage to herself and several Democrats by misrepresenting one of the most patently obvious positions of the Catholic Church. Trying to defend pro-abortion Democrats like herself, Joe Biden, and others who claim the Catholic faith, Pelosi asserted that the Church has never been able to say when human life really begins. An intellectually absurd argument anyway, this couldn’t be further from the truth…and the Church has responded.
A Big NARAL 'Oops' Moment
The Democrat mantra on the abortion issue for decades has been “you can’t legislate morality.”  They have been obsessed with the proposition that abortion is a kitchen table issue that isn’t something that should be decided by Washington politicians.  This argument has been fatally flawed from the start, but NARAL President Nancy Keenan accidentally punched a giant hole in it at the Democrat Convention in Denver.  Did anyone notice?
We Tried Obama's Tax Policies Once Before
To spark economic growth, Barack Obama seeks to raise the tax rate on the wealthiest Americans and then redistribute that wealth down to the middle and lower classes.  We don’t have to rely on economic theory to realize this is a bad idea…we’ve tried it before: in the onset of the Great Depression.  Raising tax rates on the wealthiest only sucks away needed capital investment from the market, and puts it in the hands of bureaucrats…thus delaying any economic spark. McCain Should Announce Now and Tick Them Off
With all the attention supposed to be focused on the Democrats right now, how much fun could McCain have making a daring VP pick right in the middle of the week? Peter advocated McCain announcing his VP the same day as Barack Obama, but that didn’t happen. So why not now? Classless? Who says?
SPECIAL FEATURE
Quote of the Week
"I mean, that's the only way I can say it: I can't believe it.  There are so many reasons that this pick of Biden doesn't make sense politically, I can't even begin to enumerate them in the time I've got.  This is non-sensical to me from a strictly political perspective."
Lower the Drinking Age?
There’s a current movement amongst several college and university administrations to push for a lowering of the drinking age. The argument goes that having the legal age set at 21 actually encourages the abuse of alcohol by young college students aged 18-20. The grand solution is to make it legal and thereby stop the problem with binge drinking. This could be one of the stupidest ideas ever proposed. Click to read why they're pushing it.
